- Tokyo Institute of Technology Field of study Chemistry/Mater.Sci.
- Courses to form the Program
- Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Science and Engineering
- Program Title
- Nanomaterial Frontier Cultivation for Industrial Collaboration
- Program Leader
- HOSONO, Hideo Department/Position Professor
- ProgramSummary
- The program is designed to bring the several material research frontiers of which the materials group at Tokyo Tech. is leading the world up to the stage of industrial collaboration. It also creates new doctoral courses to send out such graduates who are internationally capable of managing an R& D project and of raising a venture business.
- Needs and Objectives for the Program
- The focus of the research will be placed on the nano-material frontiers on the basis of "quantum structure" which is common to all the materials categories of metals, ceramics and polymers if they are treated in nano-scales. The research group consists of selected active researchers from the four Departments related to materials science of Tokyo Tech. by which attempts will effectively be made to innovate new materials with various functions. Two types of new doctorate course will be established in order to raise young researchers who have skills to conduct and manage a research project internationally.
- Plan for Formation of Research Center
- Three major topics in nano-material field are the focus of the program. At the end of the program, after five years since the program starts, a Research Center will be established having the function as an incubation center for idustrialization. The field of interest are:
- Oxide and Molecular Electronics
- Materials for Environmental Protection and Energy Conversion
- Creation of New Functions by Nano-structure manipulation
- Education Implementation Plan
- Two types of new doctorate course will be established. The one is to raise world-leading young researchers who have experienced the highly advanced and true frontier in materials science. The other is to send out such scientists who are capable of conducting and managing a research project internationally and of raising a venture business. Students enrolled are to be selected, financially supported, receiving research fund, and sent to the graduate school overseas for some period.
